Orlando FWA Meeting – Wed. – Aug 2, 2017 – 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Editing Basics for Authors & Indie Publishers

You’ve created an awesome book cover design, a great title, and an intriguing market description. People pick up your book to read, and hopefully to buy it. But, will they? No matter how good the story, if the reader is assaulted with poor grammar, spelling errors, and incorrect punctuation they will put the book back on the shelf. Poor editing is one of the biggest problems with independently published books.

Author, speaker, book coach, Rik Feeney will present his talk, Editing Basics for Authors & Indie Publishers at the Orlando FWA meeting held Wednesday, August 2nd from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the University Club in Winter Park. Feeney says, “I always recommend a second set of eyeballs on everything you write. You know what you meant to say, but did it get down on the paper effectively?”

Under the pressure of a deadline or the excitement of the new electronic publishing capabilities, many writers have become “one-draft wonders,” who publish the first thoughts that pop into their minds. Abbreviated text in e-mail and Twitter-type messages seem to have lowered the bar in communications significantly. If you want to get reviews and testimonials that confirm your book is the next bestseller, you need to have your book edited.

Keeping in mind that editing fees can be expensive, Feeney will discuss ways you can self-edit to save yourself time and money before you present your book to a professional editor or publish online. This talk is free and open to the public. Contact Rik Feeney at usabookcoach@gmail.com for more information.

Orlando Florida Writer’s Association presents Advanced Book Marketing for the Savvy Author,” a talk by writer, speaker, and book coach Rik Feeney at the University Club in Winter Park on Wednesday, March 1st at 6:30 pm.

Knowing where to promote your work online is critical for success. The big question for every author is: Are you taking advantage of all the methods of promotion available to you? How have you researched your online niche market? Have you filled out your ISBN metadata? What’s the timeline for your promotions? How can you sustain the online marketing effort with your offline marketing techniques for a minimum of two to three years? Is it possible you can do all this for free?

In this talk, Feeney will show you easy-to-use strategies to integrate your offline and online marketing efforts, how to use Amazon to research pricing, cover design, and develop effective reviews, and, how and where to supply the appropriate metadata to make sure your book gets the notice it needs. These are just a few of the many ideas that will be discussed. There will also be an open forum where you can contribute ideas that have worked for you.

Join us at the Orlando Florida Writer’s Association meeting on Wednesday, March 1st at 6:30 pm at the University Club in Winter Park (corner of Webster & Park). The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information go to https://fwaorlando.wordpress.com or email usabookcoach@gmail.com.
