The Importance of Being Descriptive

Gerald Schiffhorst, Ph.D., professor emeritus of English at UCF and author of nine books and numerous articles and reviews is our speaker July 7, 2010 at 6:30 PM at the Orlando FWA meeting at the University Club in Winter Park.  He will look closely at examples from recent fiction and non-fiction to see how important vivid, sensory details are to engaging the reader’s interest. The meeting is free and open to the public. For additional information, visit the FWA blog at www.fwa-orlando.org  or contact Rik Feeney, group leader UsaBookCoach@gmail.com.

 Miami Book Fair

Robert Mykle finally got the application for this year’s MBFI.  Through the FWA we will have a booth this year and we need your checks as soon as possible (read by June 15)  in order to get the “early bird” special price.

 Pricing: June 15 or before

FWA members          $70.00/author.

Nonmembers            $80.00/author.

After the 15th the price will rise so please send your checks made out to the FWA with memo notation MBFI. We have space for more authors.

 Dates: Friday November 19 — Sunday November 21, 2010.

The only requirement the MBFI asks is that we “man’ the booth for the entire 3 days so we will have to coordinate times such as opening in the morning and closing at night. This is a fantastic opportunity for any author to get exposure and experience the largest book fair in the US.
